- After completing the written part of the assignment, I transferred my ps file to my desktop using CoreFTP and then viewed it with Ghostscript. Graphically, it looked fine on the screen, but when I printed it, everything had shifted too far up on the page (For example, instead of there being an inch between the header line and the top of page 1, there is barely a half an inch...even though it looks fine on the previewer). - Alas, different programs end up processing margins differently. For this class, as long as the text is not cut off anywhere, that doesn't matter. Generally, you need to make sure whatever program is translating between the
dvifile and the finished product "knows" what system you will be printing with - since you useddvipson UNIX, it was assuming you'd be using the ePrint stations; your printer apparently translates things a little differently. DukeEgr93 09:24, 1 September 2008 (EDT)

- I've set up PuTTy on my laptop. However, the edits I am making to emacs are not affecting latex. No matter how many times I save and reload latex, nothing seems to be working. What could cause this to happen? Mjc43 20:37, 26 August 2009 (EDT)
- Main thing is this - make sure to save the file from emacs, then re-run latex on it. My *guess* is you either aren't saving the file or you are using the wrong filename? DukeEgr93 19:01, 27 August 2009 (EDT)

- I am running X11, and I am trying to open the lab in emacs but once emacs is open it says that there was a problem when trying to open the file. What can I do to fix the problem? Jg148 12:20, 27 August 2009 (EDT)
